Can I include a gift note with my order?
Yes, just add the exact message you would like to include in the Comments box at checkout.
Do you have a physical bakery/shop?
Yes! We work out of Melt Bakery’s production space on NYC’s Lower East Side and will have a pop-up holiday shop in the same space this holiday season. Please check our dates/hours here.
Where can I buy your products if I don’t live in the NYC area?
In our online shop. We plan to expand our distribution in the future.
How do you pronounce lebkuchen?
It’s not the easiest word to pronounce, but you’ll get the hang of it soon enough. It is pronounced LAYB-koo-khen, with the emphasis on the first syllable. The German “ch” in kuchen (which means cake) is pronounced much like the “ch” in the Scottish word loch. However, most Americans tend to pronounce the sound with a hard k.
Do you ship internationally?
Unfortunately, we do not currently ship internationally.
Is your lebkuchen authentic? Did you make any changes to suit the American palate?
Our lebkuchen is completely authentically made. We know, because we’ve probably consumed more lebkuchen than most Germans! Even though many ingredients are not readily available in the US (for example, oblaten baking wafers, candied citron and orange peel without preservatives, marzipan comparable to that used in Germany, etc.), we went to great lengths to source all of these ingredients to enable us to make a truly authentic product.
How long does lebkuchen keep?
Lebkuchen enjoys a naturally long shelf life (we do not use any artificial preservatives in our products, but the honey and spices function as natural preservatives), and its myriad flavors actually improve over time as the spices and natural oils continue to blend, so the treat doesn’t need to be consumed immediately after purchase. We recommend that you eat the lebkuchen within a few weeks for optimal taste and texture, but as long as you store your lebkuchen in an airtight container (our lebkuchen tins are a good option) and in a cool, dry place, you can continue to enjoy your lebkuchen for up to 6-8 weeks. Good luck keeping it from being eaten for that long though. Should the lebkuchen lose some of its moisture, try this old trick: add a piece of sliced apple to the container for a day or two and then remove it.
What if I’m not happy with my lebkuchen?
If you are not satisfied with your order for any reason, please contact us and we will make things right. We are so confident that you will enjoy our lebkuchen that we offer a 100%, totally unconditional money-back guarantee.
