Yum!

These cookies are great! I received a can as a gift and ending up buying more. I’ve marked my calendar to order more next year.

The best lebkuchen I've ever had

My husband was raised in Germany. I met him 38 years ago, and he introduced me to German holiday goodies such as lebkuchen, dominosteine, linzer torte, and stollen. In all these 38 christmases, I have never had a lebkuchen as good at the Lecker Lee one. The spices were perfect, the bottom wafer was just right, the chocolate was high quality chocolate, and the whole thing wasn't dry. It was A+ and I will be getting these lebkuchen every christmas from now on :)

Delicious and not too sweet

Loved your lebkuchen! However the extra large communion wafer underneath is pretty weird and takes away from the experience of eating your otherwise delicious cookies. I assume it's there because of the sticky dough, but is not pleasant to bite into, especially not knowing it was there. I finally discovered your (very small print) explanation on one of the enclosed cards, but only after I'd peeled off the styrofoam-like wafer. Disappointing finish to a great cookie.

Hi Rhonda, thanks for your review. We're glad that you enjoyed the lebkuchen but sorry that you did not like the wafer. Unfortunately, we're not able to do anything about the wafer, as it is intended to be a part of the cookie. As background, the wafers on the bottom are known as Backoblaten in Germany, and they are a common feature of several German baked goods, including lebkuchen. They have their origin in the communion wafer, which Franconian monks used during the Middle Ages to prevent lebkuchen dough from sticking to the baking sheet. Thus, the wafers have long been a traditional component of the lebkuchen. I hope that helps explain why the wafer is there.
