A Very Special Puzzle

A Very Special Puzzle

So, we have a special 10th Anniversary giveaway this weekend for newsletter subscribers and our Instagram followers! Three winners will receive a $100 Leckerlee gift card and a custom Leckerlee puzzle made by cult-favorite Liberty Puzzles.

What's a puzzle got to do with lebkuchen? Well, not much on the surface. But, first of all, this is no ordinary puzzle.

Liberty puzzles are a tribute to classic wooden jigsaw puzzles from the 1930s. Made of quarter-inch maple plywood, the wooden puzzle pieces are incredibly satisfying to put into place.

Each Liberty puzzle also contains dozens of hand-drawn "whimsy" pieces cut into the shapes of characters, animals and other recognizable objects, carefully crafted to match the theme of the puzzle image. They are complex puzzles within puzzles, works of art within art.

The whimsy pieces in our winter-themed custom puzzle include snowflakes, skiers, sleighs, snowball fighters, bears, and more:

Sometimes whimsy pieces are located near each other as part of a group of characters (interrelating whimsy pieces), or they can be made up of several interlocking pieces (complex whimsy pieces), like the snowman piece in our puzzle:

Back to the question of why we decided to give away puzzles...well, we very much appreciate Liberty Puzzles' throwback to thoughtful craftsmanship, as well as their goal of inspiring (non-digital) social connection. It's a spirit and ethos we advocate and aspire to here at Leckerlee. And of course, Strohl's charming Tenth Anniversary illustration lent itself to the perfect puzzle design.

So our hope is that the winners will have a chance to spend several hours with friends or family assembling this special puzzle, enjoying lebkuchen, perhaps with some coffee or tea, and relishing the remainder of the holiday season.

To quote Liberty Puzzles' motto: Sit Long, Talk Much. And Happy Holidays!
