Our year at Leckerlee follows the rhythms of the seasons; in the fall we bake and ship, in the winter we plan for the following year, and in the spring we rest. The summer, however, is when excitement for the coming season truly begins to build, and that all starts with our annual photo shoot.
The first step is receiving the prototypes of the year’s new tin designs. After collaborating for months and sending sketches back and forth with our partners at Strohl, this is always an exciting moment of seeing fresh ideas come to life.
Next, our all-woman dream team gathers:
-
Photographer Rebecca Stumpf, who we’ve been working with since 2020
-
First assistant and digital tech Emma Sedach, who handles lighting and all things technical
-
Prop stylist Emily Park, who helps to set up each scene
-
Sandy (that’s me, Leckerlee’s owner), who oversees the art direction

Together we assembled at my home in Colorado on a 90+ degree day to channel the holiday spirit, and create a bit of Christmas magic in July.

The house was pure chaos on the day of our shoot; picture couches piled with linens in a sumptuous array of textures, wooden surfaces overflowing with richly-hued ceramics including cups, platters, and cake stands, and a wonderland of holiday touches like fresh greenery, twinkling lights, and festive ribbons, all evoking the ultimate Christmas coziness.

And of course we had plenty of freshly-baked lebkuchen on hand, always the star of the show!

We also scour thrift stores for props that might specifically work with our new designs for the season.

This year, we searched for old-timey toys, miniature logs and other props befitting a campfire scene, and decorative accents aligned with a mid-century color palette. (Shhh, those are major hints about what you can expect from 2025’s special tins.)

After a long day of shooting, we might get 8-10 different “scenes.” These are the photos we’ll be sharing with you soon, when we begin revealing our new tins on October 1st! To tide you over, here is a snapshot of their lids; stay tuned for more photos and details as we move further into fall, and closer to your first delicious lebkuchen of the season.
