Leckerlee started in 2011 in New York City. Many of our bestselling tin designs were inspired by our time there, from the quintessential NYC Skyline to the ever-popular City Scenes to the Brooklyn-inspired Block Party.
In 2020, we gave up city life and moved the business out west near Boulder, Colorado. While we still miss the city, we're grateful to be surrounded by such majestic scenery every day.
We thought it was time to pay homage to our new adopted home of Colorado with a Rocky Mountain tin, focusing on the dramatic terrain of Rocky Mountain National Park, which we’re fortunate to have just an hour away from our bakery.
With outdoor adventures as the jumping off point, our longtime design partners Eric and Christine of Strohl explored the elements that might distinctly represent the American west: “Snow-capped peaks and towering evergreens were obvious, but the legendary bighorn sheep truly represent what we all think about when it comes to Colorado.”
As for style, Strohl looked to the iconic WPA poster series of the 1930s and 1940s for loose inspiration. As part of Roosevelt’s New Deal and the WPA’s Federal Art Project, these posters celebrated a specific park’s natural grandeur. The designs were bold, making use of a limited palette and dynamic shadow and lighting to capture the mood:

.
Strohl employed a similar method of silhouetting to frame the tin scene, pulling focus and color in from the background:
To fill the scene around the entire tin, Strohl created a series of vignettes filled with details intended to evoke memories of national park adventures: a serene mountain backdrop, the gentle drift of a lone canoe, awe-inspiring wildlife encounters, and the perfect spot to pitch a tent.
The Rocky Mountain Tin is our tribute to these special moments in nature, to being unplugged and present, with a reverence for the natural world that stays with you, long after the gear is packed and you’re on your way home.
